Korea Patient Rights Guide

Foreign patient medical dispute mediation in Korea

Published Draft: kept out of search until the figures are confirmed

Statistics on foreign patients’ medical dispute applications come from the agency’s yearbook, where it publishes them, and are shown next to the official help desks.

Whether and how the yearbook breaks out foreign applicants is confirmed edition by edition. Years without a published figure stay blank.

Which official desks can foreign patients contact?

The official desks and their numbers are listed in the foreign patient trend tool, with the date each one was checked.

What share of medical dispute applications come from foreign patients?

The share is foreign applications divided by all applications in the same year, calculated by Korea Patient Rights Guide.

How are medical dispute statistics collected?

The numbers come from the public body’s own case records; Korea Patient Rights Guide only downloads, standardises and tabulates them.

Nationality is taken from the application. Foreign residents enrolled in Korea’s National Health Insurance and foreign patients who travelled to Korea for treatment may be counted together; the yearbook notes say which.

What can medical dispute statistics not tell you?

They count applications and how they ended. They cannot tell you whether a particular treatment was negligent or how your own case will end.

  • Foreign applications are a small group, so one year can differ a lot from the next.
  • Disputes settled abroad or through other routes are not counted.
  • Desk numbers and hours can change; check the official page before calling.
